Past continuous – questions

לומדי כאן: בשאלה היפוך פשוט - הפועל העזר was/were עובר לפני הנושא, וה-ing נשאר צמוד לפועל הראשי. אין צורך להוסיף did. מקרה אחד דורש תשומת לב: כששואלים על הנושא עצמו. בדוגמה Who was the doctor treating? המילה Who היא המושא, ולכן was עדיין בא לפני the doctor. תמיד קודם מילת השאלה, אחריה was/were, ואז כל השאר.

Yes/no questions

שאלת כן/לא ב-Past continuous נפתחת ב-Was או Were, אחריהם הנושא ואחריו פועל עם ing: Was + נושא + verb-ing? Was the athlete training for the Olympic Games? אפשר לענות בקצרה ובתוספת פרטים: Yes, at that time she was training at least three times a week. בתשובה הקצרה חוזרים על was או were: Yes, she was. / No, she wasn't.

Wh-questions

כשרוצים מידע שלם יותר, שמים מילת שאלה לפני was או were: How was the patient feeling after he took the medicine? כאן was הוא הפועל העזר, ו-feeling הוא הפועל הראשי. הסדר: מילת שאלה + was/were + נושא + verb-ing.

שאלה על אירוע ברקע

Past continuous מתאים גם לשאלות על מה שהתרחש ברקע של אירוע אחר: The police were investigating the bank robbery and I was a witness. The police asked me: Where were you standing at the time of the robbery? What were you doing there? שימו לב ש-were בא לפני you, כי הנושא בשאלה בא אחרי הפועל העזר, ולא לפניו.

אותו סדר, מידע אחר

הסדר בשאלות האלה קבוע: מילת שאלה (אם יש), was או were, הנושא, ו-verb-ing. כדי לא לטעות, מתחילים מהמשפט החיובי ומעבירים את was/were קדימה. The police were investigating the bank robbery הופך ל-Were the police investigating the bank robbery? אותה שאלה אפשר להרחיב עם מילת שאלה: What were the police investigating? השאלה עדיין עוסקת במה שהיה באמצע בעבר, ובכולן ה-ing נשאר צמוד לפועל הראשי. טיפ לתרגול: כשמקבלים משפט בעבר ב-Past continuous וצריכים להפוך אותו לשאלה, קודם מסמנים את was או were. את זה מעבירים לתחילת המשפט, ואם יש מילת שאלה היא באה לפניו. את שאר המשפט לא משנים. אין צורך להוסיף did, כי was/were כבר פועל כעזר. בדקו בסוף ש-ing עדיין נמצא על הפועל הראשי, ושה-was/were מתאים לנושא: was עם he/she/it, were עם you/we/they.

דוגמאות פתורות

Make a yes/no question: The athlete was training for the Olympic Games.

  1. מעבירים את was לתחילת המשפט.
  2. הנושא the athlete בא אחריו.
  3. training נשאר עם ing.

תשובה: Was the athlete training for the Olympic Games?

Make a wh-question: The patient was feeling better. (ask: How)

  1. מציבים How בתחילת השאלה.
  2. אחריה was, הנושא the patient, וה-feeling.

תשובה: How was the patient feeling?

Ask two questions about a witness: you were standing at the bank / you were doing something there.

  1. לשאלה הראשונה Where + were + you + standing.
  2. לשאלה השנייה What + were + you + doing.
  3. שתי השאלות עוסקות בזמן אחד בעבר, ולכן Past continuous.

תשובה: Where were you standing? What were you doing there?

Make a yes/no question and a wh-question: The doctor was treating the patient. (wh: Who)

  1. שאלת כן/לא: Was + the doctor + treating the patient? זה כמו ההיפוך ב-Was the athlete training?
  2. שאלת Who על המטופל: Who was the doctor treating?
  3. בשתי השאלות was נשאר לפני הנושא, ו-treating עם ing.

תשובה: Was the doctor treating the patient? / Who was the doctor treating?

תרגול

1. Make a yes/no question: The children were playing in the park.תרגול

4. Correct the mistake: Where you were standing?תרגול
  1. בשאלה were עובר לפני הנושא.
  2. הסדר: Where + were + you + standing.

5. Ask a wh-question: The patient was feeling better after the medicine. (ask: How)שאלה בהקשר

  • השאלות האלה נלמדות בכיתות ח' ו-ט' בלבד. בכיתה ז' אין להן תיאור בתוכנית.
  • שאלת כן/לא: Was/Were + נושא + verb-ing? Was the athlete training?
  • תשובה קצרה: Yes, she was. / No, she wasn't.
  • שאלת wh: מילת שאלה + was/were + נושא + verb-ing. How was the patient feeling?
  • אפשר לשאול גם על אירוע ברקע: Where were you standing? What were you doing there?
